The additions and modernization of Building 8 afforded the CPTC the ability for the first time to house personal care programs into one facility. Formally these programs were located in Building 8, in portables, and off-campus.
The new design allows the programs of Cosmetology, Massage, Manicuring and Esthetics to offer student training along with classroom teaching and public services in a single facility. Now the public can come to a single facility for getting hair and nail services, face and skin services, and a massage.
The building was designed to have a public side facing Lakewood Drive and a student side facing the main campus. A pond with fountains was provided at the public entrance to begin the comforting experience that is offered within the Personal Care Services facility.
The challenge was to design a facility with a limited budget of .9 million that combined teaching spaces and public service spaces. Spaces need to be warm and inviting for the public and open enough for teaching. With the use of canopies, intimacy was provided while still providing open areas to teach a class. Flexibility and privacy is provided with curtains in many of the clinics.
