Architectural Process

Teamwork

Erickson McGovern believes that teamwork is the most important factor in the architecture and design process. Coordination with the client, consulting engineers and our own architectural team members is absolutely vital to a successful design solution. We form a diverse team consisting of client representatives,  staff and consultants to provide a solid basis for thorough consideration of all options in the design.

Programing

Team leaders continually test and study design alternatives until the right solution is reached. Hands-on design exercises will continue as we study design mock-ups, start developing the building systems, “tune” the design, assess goals and analyze costs. Every aspect of the design including space planning, systems, and interior/exterior materials and colors will be reviewed, verified and justified. The design will be evaluated on multiple levels including in-house design critiques, review of functional capabilities of the design by your program and operational staff.

Documentation

"Communication prior to bid is essential for well prepared drawing sets”

Erickson McGovern takes pride in preparing drawing sets and producing a concise, accurate set of documents. We take great effort to keep the amount of construction change orders for a project to a minimum. Regular meeting are held with members of the design team during the preparation of construction documents. In addition, we contract with outside consultants that specializes in construction document review. We also communicate directly with contractors and product representatives to ensure that any challenging components of the project are discussed and altered prior to bid.

Scheduling

During preparation of the construction documents, regular coordination meetings will be held with the design team members. A checklist of action items will be maintained and reviewed to ensure design coordination as well as keeping the project on track.  It is essential that the entire project team be fully committed to meeting the Owner's schedule and intended completion date.
