Classroom
Our evolution in elementary school classroom design began with the “Fat L,ā which uses the same square footage as a typical classroom while simultaneously accommodating large and small group instruction. The design also creates additional wall space for displays of student work and projects. In addition, movable wall partitions between classrooms allows for large group activities.
This classroom design can be arranged in clusters around a common project area which serves as an extension of the classroom.
The “Fat Lā classroom design was implemented in several elementary schools, and over time evolved into a hybrid shape referred to as the “Ski Boot.ā This adaptation improved upon it predecessor by using an angled wall with over-sized swinging doors to connect two classrooms – providing enhanced teacher supervision and acoustic isolation between classrooms.
